Are you a beginner to diving?

Next Ocean Diver Course - Currently in Progress.

Try Dives: Before you sign up to a course why not come for a try dive. This can help you save time and money by finding out in advance if you like diving or snorkeling. It allows you the chance to sample an exciting sport for and to gain an insight into what will be a fascinating world beneath the waves should you decide it is for you. Each try-dive is about 1 hour in duration, including poolside tuition on diving techniques and equipment. This is followed by a scuba dive in the pool with BSAC qualified instructors to make sure you get maximum enjoyment from your first scuba dive. Then if you want you can book onto the Ocean Diver course with us. We will provide details on start dates for dive courses being held on request.

We are listed with BSAC for the September Try Dive Campaign

Before starting out - Note: Scuba diving can be expensive to start out and so you should keep this in mind. However Jesters does have the majority of equipment to help you out during your first Ocean Diver course whilst you find your feet and get your kit together. Take advice from our members on what scuba gear they have and on the many message boards before making your decision on what you want to buy, we will all be happy to help and advise you. At some point you will be doing Open Water training sessions to complete the Ocean Diver course and put into practice all that you have learned. Unfortunately unlike the Red Sea and other hot climate resorts UK diving is on the colder side and so you will need a dry suit.. We do not have these in the club because all new members are different shapes and sizes so it's not feasible for the club to buy them. Local dive stores may hire them or you can hire them from the dive centers in advance for your training days. You are better to buy your own either off the peg or fully fitted and this will be one of the most important and expensive pieces of kit you will buy, but a good one will last for many dive years to come..

You will find as a beginner there are numerous scuba stores that offer good discounts on starting out set up's. There is also Ebay (a favorite with myself) for those cash shy but there is rubbish out there so be careful. If you wish to start diving with us you should initially purchase your own mask, a 'shorty' wetsuit or similar, and fins for both pool work and open water dives. Least you will no they fit well and are comfortable on you. Other than the dry suit, we do have all equipment available for you but we charge a hire fee of £55 for the course duration. This goes towards air fills and the necessary servicing costs each year. As you progress you may decide scuba diving is definitely for you, now is the time you need to be looking to buy BCD's and Regulators and other dive equipment, if you don't have them already.
